Unveil Kilimanjaro, Expert Travel Guide to Plan Your Perfect Trip
The Marangu Route is the oldest and quickest route on Kilimanjaro. Marangu Route is considered to be one of the easiest routes to walk, as one moves a lot on well-developed paths. In contrast to other routes, it is the only route with accommodation in huts.
The Marangu Route, often called the "Coca-Cola Route," is the oldest and most established route for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Spanning approximately 72 kilometres, this route typically takes 5-6 days, making it one of the shortest routes to the summit. Beginning from the southeastern side of Kilimanjaro, the Marangu Route is known for its gradual slope and comfortable huts along the way.
The ascent begins at Marangu Gate up the southeast side of Kilimanjaro through the beautiful forest and moorland before passing to the south of Mawenzi and crossing the desolate saddle on route to Kibo Hut. You then ascend to the summit on scree slopes to Gilmans Point and then onto Uhuru Peak. Descent is back to Marangu Gate.
However, the recommended Marangu Route 6 Days, gives you an additional day for acclimatization and also allows you to sleep in the lower elevation and spend more time on the mountains.
Finally, the Marangu Route offers a smoother and less strenuous ascent, making it suitable for less experienced climbers.
